EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana plant that makes vinyl fencing and other products will close this fall, costing about 80 workers their jobs.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Westech Building Products USA expects the last of the 81 employees affected by the Mount Vernon plant's closure to lose their jobs by Nov. 21.

Plant manager Jason Brown tells the Evansville Courier & Press that those employees are being offered severance and other assistance.

He says the plant is being closed due to "increased competition as well as dramatic changes in technology" that have made it more difficult for its vinyl fence and decking businesses to remain competitive.

Mount Vernon is located along the Ohio River about 20 miles southwest of Evansville.
