State Launches Redesigned Transparency Portal

The state redesigned its online transparency portal, which houses information on the state’s finances, including expenditures, assets, and contracts. That overhaul launched Tuesday and Indiana Auditor Tera Klutz says it’s designed to make it easier to see how the state spends tax dollars.

The overhaul aimed to make it easier to find information and summarize it, instead of delivering it in big, often unwieldy data collections, like the old site.

Klutz says the old portal was often frustrating and difficult for Hoosiers to use effectively. She says the Transparency Portal makeover addressed the problems.

“And the easier for them to gain access, then the easier it is for them keep watch over us or know exactly how we’re spending [taxpayer money],” Klutz says.

There’s also new information on the site, including revenue from outside the state’s General Fund, such as federal money.

It cost the state $600,000 to set up the redesigned portal.
