Thousands of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are helping Indiana food pantries through a food drive called Scouting for Food.

Girl Scouts of Central Indiana CEO Danielle Shockey says this will feed their friends, neighbors, and even their sister Girl Scouts.

“Girl Scouts keep a keen eye to the social, emotional, mental, physical, academic health of girls," Shockey says. "Sadly, Indiana ranks 34th in the country in that indicator. We know while our communities have hunger our girls have hunger as well.”

Scouting for Food offers options for people to support the food drive at Kroger stores and Gleaners food bank.

"You can pick up a bag of food. They have different denomination $3, $5 and $10," Shockey says. "You can choose one of those as well as go to Gleaners food bank.”

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will also go door-to-door to collect donations. The food drive, now in its 32nd year, runs through April 7.
