The holiday season will soon be upon us. The Salvation Army kicked off its annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Thursday to help those in need during the holidays.
“Our goal this year is $3.5 million, and so that is not just in the red kettles, it’s a culmination of all the fundraising that we do during the Christmas season. Of course that money is used locally right here in central Indiana,” says Spokesman Mike Rowland.
Rowland says they fell short of their fundraising goal last year..
“Things we try to do very much is to be really good stewards of the donations that are given to us," Rowland says. "Because of that we were able to stretch those dollars and make them go further, but we really need to reach our goal this year so we can assist as many people as possible.”
Last year, through the generosity of Hoosiers, The Salvation Army was able to provide more than 113,800 safe nights of shelter and 468,000 meals for those in need.
