The Salvation Army kicks off the Christmas season Friday, November 13th with its Red Kettle campaign.
Major Marc Johnson, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Indiana Division, says the goal is 3.2 million dollars. Red kettles will be placed throughout Central Indiana.
“We’re there for everyone without discrimination. We want to meet those needs and that way share not only help but hope, says Johnson.”
Major Johnson says because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people who were regular donors now find themselves in need of more help and support.
He shares an email they received from a local family.
"Our family has been hit very hard by COVID-19. We have three children, all little girls, and our hours have been cut to only three hours a day. That's only 15 hours a week. We will not be able to buy Christmas for our babies this year and we are so heartbroken. We also will not be able to provide them with Christmas dinner."
A virtual Red Kettle Campaign also hopes to raise 250-thousand dollars through the platform, which allows supporters to create their own virtual Red Kettle with a personal fundraising goal.
