Rough Commute For Indy Drivers

Rough Commute For Indy Drivers

Indianapolis streets were packed this morning as many people made their way back to work, and efforts to clear the way continue.

Near record snowfall and artic temperatures have made have made a mess of area roadways but Indy Snow Force crews continue a full call out.

The men and women of the Indy Snow Force have been working 24-7 since Wednesday to fight heavy snow accumulation and subzero temps. The Department of Public Works says it will continue to fight this weather event at full force, rotating 12-hour shifts.

Stephanie Wilson, Department of Public Works Communications Director says it may take another day until drivers see all black top.

"It's going to be that way for a while," Wilson said.  "I know that when people see that we are out there plowing and salting they want to see their pavement, we want that too."

As the temperatures continue to rise, salt will begin to help melt the packed snow.  DPW urges people to be patient, go slow and follow travel advisories.
