Rep. Todd Huston Gets New Role In Budget Process

Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers) will have a new role this session as House GOP budget architect Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville) continues his recovery from a serious motorcycle accident.

With Brown still on the mend, Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) asked Huston to step up. Huston will be the Ways and Means co-chair in 2019, helping lead the House version of a new two-year state budget. Huston says he’ll draw on lessons he’s learned over the years from Brown.

“Bringing the entire caucus together, kind of walk them along what the challenges are, what the opportunities are," Huston says. "I don’t think there will be a tremendous amount of change but I’m sure we all have different personalities.”

There are a lot of new people in this year’s budget process: the Senate has a new Appropriations Chair, a new Tax and Fiscal Policy Chair, and a new President Pro Tem. Bosma says that will bring its own challenges.

“The fresh faces are good, too," Bosma says. "It gives kind of a shot in the arm to the institution, a fresh look at things.”

The session begins Jan. 3.
