Indianapolis officials say they want to redevelop more sites at a historic property on the city's near west side.

Indiana’s first mental hospital, Central State Hospital, closed in the mid-90’s. The city bought the 160-acre property from the state in 2003.

IMPD Mounted Patrol has been on the property ever since, and will move to a new barn right around the corner.

The vacated location on the western edge of the property is one of three the city is requesting proposals for. Developers may also submit ideas for the old powerhouse site on West Washington, and a storehouse site.

Other developments on the property have included housing, a charter school, event space and space for arts collaboratives. The Indiana Medical History Museum still operates in the 1896 pathology building.

The Department of Metropolitan Development will consider ideas for adaptive reuse and redevelopment submitted by December 13.
