WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University will begin offering new types of engineering degrees to students on the West Lafayette campus.

The master's and doctoral degree programs in environmental and ecological engineering at Purdue University have been approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The degrees will be administered by the school's Division of Environmental and Ecological Engineering and will involve faculty from the department who will offer courses and mentor students.

WLFI-TV reports that the new degree programs come at a time when employment in engineering is projected to grow significantly in the next decade.

Purdue University is expected to award its first advanced degrees in May 2017.
