A long-standing tradition in downtown Indianapolis has been canceled due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The Cathedral Women at Christ Church Cathedral have decided to postpone the 55th Annual Strawberry Festival, originally scheduled for June 11.

While the traditional summer festival will not take place, the Cathedral Women are asking the public to consider contributing the $7 cost of a shortcake with toppings, or an amount of their choice, toward their community grants program.

Funds will be collected now through June 11. Contributions can be made online.

The first Strawberry Festival was held on June 10 1965.
