Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were involved in a police shooting Thursday afternoon on the city’s north side.
The incident happened north of 38th Street on Broadway Street. Police said they responded to a call of a man waving a gun and threatening to shoot people. Soon after arrival, the officer involved shooting happened.
IMPD said two officers fired shots that hit the man.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the incident. At least one body worn camera was activated during this incident.
This is the second police shooting resulting in death this week. Police in Beech Grove killed a man after responding to a child welfare check. IMPD is currently involved in a Department of Justice review of police-involved shooting incidents after a spike last year.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. An investigation is underway.
