A spokesperson for Noblesville schools says police are investigating the threat of a school shooting next week at Noblesville High School.

Marnie Cooke says the threat "involved ugly, derogatory racial statements," and referenced a school shooting this upcoming Monday.

Police detained the suspect and the district is starting expulsion proceedings.

Classes will go on as planned Monday, but there will be an increased police presence.

The school district, Noblesville Diversity Coalition and NHS student leaders will host a community conversation about safety and inclusion Saturday at Ivy Tech Noblesville at 3 p.m. Counselors will also be available at the event.

"The cruelty, hatred and ugliness that we’ve seen in our community is heartbreaking and as a school district and community we are better than this," Superintendent Beth Niedermeyer says in a statement. "We must stand together against violence and racism."

The threat comes the same week a judge ordered a 13-year-old Noblesville West Middle School student be held at a state juvenile detention center for a shooting that injured a classmate and teacher in May. The boy was charged as a juvenile and admitted last week to the attack.

Residents on election day voted to raise taxes to implement more security and safety efforts at schools.
