IUPUI’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs is hosting a forum tonight on police-worn body cameras.  SPEA Director Jeremy Carter says the event will gather a panel of experts to discuss accepted practices, implementation and sustainability.

“The idea was to bring in some national experts that have experience with this issue,” Carter says.

The Lawrence Police Department rolled out new body camera technology this week. In Indianapolis, the IMPD is also considering the practice

Carter says police departments must weigh many factors, "There are a number of concerns around cost, but also privacy, policy, sustainability that really need to be worked out before you can have these cameras.”

The forum will include an audience question-and-answer session. The panel will include a special projects manager for the Cincinnati Police Department, a professor of criminology, law and society at George Mason University, and a strategic adviser for the Seattle Police Department. The public is encouraged to attend and ask questions.

It takes place from 6-8 p.m. tonight in the Faegre Baker Daniels Conference Room on the first floor of Eskenazi Health, 720 Eskenazi Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
