A public library branch on the westside of Indianapolis will reopen this weekend, after being closed for over a year.
The Indianapolis Public Library’s Pike Branch closed in late 2023 for extensive remodeling. The branch will reopen to the public Saturday.
Gregory A. Hill, CEO of Indy Public Library, says the project ensures every community in Indianapolis has access to quality library services.
“We believe every neighborhood in Indianapolis deserves a library that is modern, inviting and ready to serve.”
The branch includes several upgrades including a gaming space and a podcast recording studio.
Michael Jenkins, Pike library branch manager, says it’s the first Indy P-L branch with this type of studio.
“Having it as an option, just for anybody in the community who wants to, who's ever considered audio recording, it's there for you, and it's free."
Jenkins hopes to expand the podcast space to include other forms of audio recording, like music production, in the future.
A reopening celebration will be at the branch this Saturday at 10 a.m. The more than 2.2 million dollar project was funded through city bonds.
