Indiana’s unemployment rate continues to hover above eight percent.
But, Gov. Mike Pence says the state is on the right track when it comes to job creation.
In August, Indiana saw the largest one month drop in unemployment in two-years, falling from 8.4 percent in July to 8.1 percent in August.
Still, only 13 states have a higher rate.
"Encouraging signs notwithstanding, we've got a long way to go," said Pence. "A lot of Hoosiers are struggling in this economy and we are going to continue to work every day to get Hoosiers back to work and really realize the full potential of the Hoosier economy."
But, Pence believes Indiana is in a good position moving forward.
"One of the reasons our state continues to be recognized as one of the best places in America to start a business or grow a business is because of our fiscal strength, because of our tax relief, because we've been cutting red tape," he said. "Continuing to build on that momentum even while we tell Indiana's story more effectively around the country and around the world, I think is a prescription for really getting this economy moving again."
New unemployment figures for September were supposed to be released this week, but were delayed because of the federal government shutdown.
