INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Nasser Paydar is being installed as the fifth chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie is scheduled to preside over the ceremony Tuesday. Purdue University President Mitch Daniels will speak. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is also scheduled to attend.

Paydar succeeds Charles Bantz, who stepped down after 12 years in the position. Before his appointment, Paydar had been IUPUI's executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer since 2012.

Robbie has praised Paydar as an able leader who has a deep understanding of IU's goals and mission.

He has been a faculty member for nearly 30 years and has held various administrative and executive leadership positions since joining IUPUI in 1985 as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering.
