Parking meter rates downtown and in other areas, are set to go up 25 cents next month.

Indianapolis’ parking meters are operated through a partnership with ParkIndy. The multi-decade contract allows the company to raise rates based on a formula that considers regional prices.

The increase from $1.50 to $1.75 will impact the city’s busiest areas including Downtown, Mass Ave and Broad Ripple. ParkIndy says this is the first hike in 10 years and represents nearly half of the parking spaces it manages.

Other parkings spaces in areas near the downtown core and residential areas will remain at $1 per hour.

The new rate will be posted and goes into effect April 1.
