Panel To Highlight Importance Of STEM

Indianapolis based Project Lead the Way is hosting an educational discussion this weekend and the event is now open to the public for free.

Project Lead the Way is the nation’s largest provider of science, technology, engineering and math - or STEM curriculum for schools, but also exists as an economic development solution. On Nov. 17 the group will gather at the Sheraton Hotel at Keystone Crossing with Hoosier business and education leaders to present its panel, “Achieve More Indiana: Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Workforce.” The event is scheduled to begin at at 6:15 p.m. with a networking reception. The panel discussion will begin at 7 p.m.

Dr. Vince Bertram, president and CEO of Project Lead the Way says STEM related jobs are growing more rapidly than any other area. He says it's important to help students understand how STEM lessons are connected to our technologically advanced world.

"We have not only a skills gap issue in America, but an aspiration and expectation gap," Bertram says.

The discussion will include leaders from Eli Lilly, Cummins, Rolls Royce and IUPUI. Recently securing underwriting, the panel is free to anyone although seats must be reserved at conf.purdue.edu/pltw.
