Olympic Diving Trials Return To Indy

Olympic Diving Trials Return To Indy

Who dives for the United States in the 2016 Olympics will be determined in Indianapolis.

The city is hosting the trial event at the Natatorium at IUPUI.

It was one of two finalists along with Atlanta, but President of USA Diving Linda Paul says Indianapolis offers unique opportunities.

"What sets things apart and what Indianapolis did was many things," she said.  "The ease of getting around in such a vibrant community, it's very compact and easy to get around, the famous IU Natatorium, I mean who doesn't love that?"

"We also know Indianapolis has a volunteer spirit unlike any other city.  You are well known and loved for that all over the country."

This will be the sixth time Indianapolis has hosted the Olympic Diving trials since 1984.

Last year, Noblesville-native David Boudia won the Olympic Gold medal in the 10 meter platform.

He says the athletes will rally around having the trials in his home state.

"We know that there is no other city in this nation that embraces amateur sports like we do," said Boudia.  "So, I am confident to say that the atmosphere here, come three years from now, will be like none other and will have a huge impact on the road to Rio and our state."

The event will be held at the Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
