An Indiana State Police Investigation and Allen County Prosecutor review has cleared the Fort Wayne City government of any wrongdoing in an investigation stemming from an anonymous letter with accusations of illegal activity and policy violations.
The letter, sent to the Fort Wayne City Council in July, alleges certain employees in the Fort Wayne Division of Public Works received improper benefits from a concrete contractor with the city and that those employees were rigging the bidding process for contract work.
The Fort Wayne City Council presented the letter to the Indiana State Police who investigated the matter before presenting its findings to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The office reviewed the findings of the State Police and determined “the investigation showed no criminal actions by city employees.”
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, services received by employees were paid for and documented by bank records.
In a news release issued Thursday, Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards also concluded that the investigation “showed that the employees alleged to have tampered with the bid process do not have the ability to affect the process.”
The Prosecutor’s Office now considers the matter closed “unless new evidence is presented; not anonymous accusations.”
