New Temporary Art At Airport Points To Happiness

New Temporary Art At Airport Points To Happiness

Two new works are on exhibit as part of the Indianapolis International Airport's temporary art program.

"Happiness" and "The Midwest Aeronautical Agricultural Association" are the pieces that will be on display in the main ticketing hall through May.

Indianapolis Airport spokesman Carlo Bertolini says the art program places an emphasis on higlighting artists with Hoosier connections.

"A lot of them either have roots here, or they teach here, or reside here," explains Bertolini. "Many of them went to art school here locally and we think that makes sense to help represent our region."

"Happiness" was created by artist Jamie Pawlus who studied in Indiana.  The piece is meant to reflect the airport signage and has already created some buzz.

"I think that is what she was going for, to kind of capture that kind of directional sign," says Bertolini, "and it's back lit with 'Happiness' and a large arrow like it's giving directions to happiness."

The temporary art program is meant to compliment and reinvigorate the airport's permanent collection.
