New Parking Method In Broad Ripple

New Parking Method In Broad Ripple

People visiting Broad Ripple now have a new parking option, but it may seem a little tricky at first.

Reverse angle parking creates more space, reduces traffic accidents and makes it easier to load vehicles, according to the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.  Now this method of parking is available in Broad Ripple on the east side of Cornell Avenue from 65th Street to 66th Street.

Lesley Gordon with DPW says drivers should remember three simple steps:

  1. Use traffic signals
  2. Pull past the space and stop
  3. Then, reverse into the angled spot

"It really helps, especially on some of those high traffic streets, when you're pulling out you can see without your vision being obstructed," Gordon explains.

Reverse angle parking has proved safe and effective on two other streets in the downtown area.  More information is available at indy.gov/rebuildindy
