Millions More In Rental Assistance For Indianapolis Tenants

Millions More In Rental Assistance For Indianapolis Tenants

The city of Indianapolis will receive another $91 million for rental assistance.

The federal funds had to be approved through the State and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.  The money comes from $371 million allocated to the state for rental assistance late last year.

“As stewards of such critical funds, our administration continues to ensure we help as many Hoosiers as possible,” Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch said in a written statement.

Indianapolis’s program, Indy Rent, has already distributed more than $50 million in rent to thousands of households which have been economically impacted because of COVID-19. The new funding will allow the city to pay for a year of rental assistance, up from three months.

The state’s program, Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance (IERA), remains open to new applications while processing those currently in the system.

A federal eviction moritorium has been extended again.
