The goal of the clinics is to promote the benefits of good oral health to children and their caregivers, said Dr. Tonya Stewart, director of dental health at the Marion County Public Health Department, in a news release.
“Good dental health starts at a young age, and we want children to learn the importance of brushing and flossing as lifelong habits for healthy teeth,” Stewart said.
Stewart said tooth decay is common in children and is preventable.
“Children should see a dentist by age one, then get regular check-ups,” Stewart said. “Adults play an important role in establishing healthy dental habits in kids.”
The health department says tips for good dental health include brushing teeth twice a day, flossing daily, limiting sugary drinks and regular dental visits.
