March Unemployment Holds Steady, Labor Force Grows

Indiana’s unemployment rate held steady last month at 3.2 percent, remaining at its lowest point since December 2000. The rate hasn’t increased since July last year.

The state’s private sector helped it hold steady in March – adding 4,300 jobs, including a big boost in the trade, transportation and utilities sector.

Another positive sign for the state: the labor force increased for the second consecutive month. The labor force measures both those who have a job and those who are actively searching for one. And labor force growth is often viewed as a sign of optimism in the economy.
