Lebanon Looks Toward A Healthier Future

City and state leaders and employees gathered at the newly remodeled Lebanon High School building Tuesday to learn more about ways to increase outdoor health and fitness options.

The Active Living Workshop aims to lay out plans for a fitter future.  Lebanon Mayor Harold “Huck” Lewis says the city is primed for growth and in the process of redoing its comprehensive plan.

"One of the things we are going to seriously look at is the active living community," says Lewis. "We want more bike lanes, we want more trails."

Health by Design and the Indiana State Department of Health were represented at the workshop with a goal of making the city more connected and creating a healthier environment.

Trina Rose, wellness coordinator with Witham Health Services, says the hospital serves as a terrific resource for the community.

"We started health cooking classes at the hospital." offers Rose.

Other plans discussed at the workshop include building sidewalks and a new aquatic center.

A public meeting to present the information is being rescheduled because of weather concerns.
