Legislators are calling for a summer study committee to look at the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles after a report this week showed numerous issues within the agency.
Indianapolis Democratic Rep. Dan Forestal requested the study.
He proposes recurring independent audits of the BMV, saying it cannot be trusted to act on its own.
“I think it is absolutely past time for the legislature to get involved and help make sure there is some accountability over there at the BMV,” he says.
The BMV did not comment, citing this as a legislative matter.
Forestal says he’s still working to get other legislators on board and Republican House Transportation Committee Chairman Ed Soliday has already given his support.
