The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has chosen a team to begin construction toward an interstate-worthy bridge over the Ohio River.

The design and build team of Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., and Ragle, Inc., was awarded a $158 billion contract Tuesday to complete Section 1 of the Ohio River Crossing project.

The team will begin converting U.S. Route 41 in Henderson, Ky., into interstate highway early next year. Construction will also include new roadways. It is expected to end in 2025.

Section 2 will be a joint project between Indiana and Kentucky. It will complete the I-69 connection from U.S. 60 in Henderson to I-69 in Evansville and includes the actual bridge construction.

According to the current timeline, construction for Section 2 is expected to begin in 2027 and will continue through 2031.
