There will be no policy changes at Lucas Oil Stadium in the wake of two fans suffering injuries after a railing collapsed.
"We’re taking an investigation and taking our time to figure out (how they fell)," said Barney Levengood, executive director of the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. "We believe that it had something to do with them obviously leaning on the rail, but also some potential issues with the rail and we are trying to investigate that and understand the cause and effect."
The incident occurred, Sunday, following the Colts season opening 21-17 win over the Raiders. It happened in the first row of the section near the visiting team tunnel.
"We are looking throughout the whole facility to see if it’s a common area, but we are investigating it and hopefully learn more," said Levengood.
One of the men was treated and examined on site and the other man was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital, but Levengood says because of HIPPA laws, the details of his injuries are not disclosed.
"We will always instruct people not to do it and to behave accordingly" Levengood said of leaning on the rails.
He added that there were no previous indications of structural issues at Lucas Oil.
Levengood told the Capital Improvement Board, Monday, that the investigation will include conversations with the rail manufacturer and installation staff.
"We will review it all and check every nut and bolt between now and Friday when we have our next meeting," he said.
The Colts take on the Dolphins at Lucas Oil Stadium, Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
