Inmate Who Escaped From Indiana Prison Taken Into Custody

PENDLETON, Ind. (AP) — A northeastern Indiana sheriff's office says an inmate who escaped from a minimum-security dormitory at a central Indiana prison has been apprehended.

Steuben County sheriff's deputies say someone saw 28-year-old Charles Adams at a gas station near Interstate 69 and U.S. 20 west of Angola about 5:20 p.m. Monday and called police. Sheriff's deputies said Adams tried to flee but was quickly apprehend by deputies and Angola police.

Sheriff's deputies say they suspected Adams might have swallowed some drugs so he was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital as a precaution.

Adams was reported missing Sunday night from the prison about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

State records show Adams was serving a nearly 2-year sentence for theft and receiving stolen property from an October conviction in Steuben County.
