This month’s Indy Pride festivities are back in person for the first time in two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Executive director Shelly Snider said what is typically an 11-month planning process, turned into only five months to get everything ready.
“It’s important for us to be grateful that we are back in person. It’s been a very long two years for a lot of people. We are pretty much a brand-new organization as far as our personnel goes so, we are grateful that we have been able to pull over this monumental task,” Snider said.
Snider said volunteers are welcome.
“It takes about 300 volunteers to make all of our events happen. And that’s a great way for people to show they are true allies of the LGBTQ+ population,” Snider said.
Twenty-two events are planned throughout the month.
The Indy Pride Parade will take place on Mass Ave Saturday, June 11 and the festival will return to Military Park downtown.
The last in-person Indy Pride festival brought in a record 50,000 people in 2019. More than 40,000 people are expected to attend festivities this year.
