Indy Prepares For More Snow

Central Indiana is bracing for another round of heavy snow.

Indianapolis is expected to get between 5 and 7 inches over the next several days.

But, Director of Public Works Lori Miser says she is comfortable with the city's action plan.

"The good news is, there is no ice or freezing rain projected for our area and it's 5 to 7 inches of snow with about temperatures in the 20s to low 30s.  So, those conditions make it pretty easy for us to address," she said.  "Travel will probably be slow.  If nothing unforeseen happens, give me to the end of the day Wednesday and we will be pretty clear."

She admits salt supplies are an issue, and because they are scarce, prices are up.

Miser says the city has spent about $2 million on salt this year and will probably spend double that by the end of the winter, which would exceed the average over the past five years.

"Just in general, this has been one of the snowiest winters in a long time," said Miser. "So, we are using more salt and the fact that the salt has become scarce has increased the cost."
