The city of Indianapolis will be road ready when the snow falls this year.

Department of Public Works Spokesman Ben Easley said Indy Snow Force crews are busy planning for the winter season.

“A lot of what they are doing right now is getting the equipment prepared and then we will have our multi -day mock snow fight before the first major snow event to make sure we are ready to go,” Easley said.

Drivers have already logged more than 500 hours of training behind the wheel of their trucks and in the classroom.

“You may start seeing snow plows out at this time of year, it’s just our folks practicing.,” Easley said. “Give them plenty of space while they are reviewing their routes.”

The Department of Public Works recently added four new snowplows to its fleet. The public had a chance to name the plows in a contest. The names selected; Will Plower, Blizzard Wizard, Buzz Ice Clear and Larry Brrrrrd. The department also has more than 12 tons of road salt.
