INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service says Indianapolis and Fort Wayne rank among the worst cities in the country when it comes to dogs biting mail carriers.
The Postal Service says Indianapolis ranked 15th in the nation letter carrier attacks during 2013 with 29 bites reported and Fort Wayne was 45th with 13. Houston had the most bites with 63.
The Postal Service says a carrier in Indianapolis missed 42 days of work after being bit severely in the leg, while another carrier in Fort Wayne missed 19 days after being bitten in the hands.
The Postal Service says dogs should be kept in a separate room when mail is being delivered. It also says dog owners should remind their children about the need to keep the family dog secured.
