An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was arrested and charged with strangulation, domestic battery and battery resulting in bodily injury.

Police responded to a disturbance Sunday night on the 3500 block of Wild Ivy Court regarding a disturbance and possible assault. When officers arrived, they found that one of the people involved was off-duty police officer Glen Schmidt. Schmidt was arrested, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Schmidt on Monday.

Schmidt is on administrative leave. According to IMPD, he is currently in the Marion County Jail.

IMPD Chief Randal Taylor will make a decision on Schmidt’s employment once he is released. Schmidt is an 18-year veteran of IMPD.
