The city of Indianapolis completed a large southside stormwater project – one of numerous efforts to improve long-time flooding on Indianapolis roads.

The 2023 Indianapolis budget earmarked $443 million for infrastructure improvements, including more than $150 million for stormwater and drainage projects.

More than $2 million was invested in the Sherman Park Drive neighborhood to install new storm sewers, ditch improvements and new pavement. The improvements will relieve flooding issues for about 100 homes.

It’s one of six major stormwater projects across the city this year. In a statement, Department of Public Works Director Brandon Herget said there are currently more than 40 stormwater related projects that aim to improve overall infrastructure longevity.

"Resolving stormwater issues in neighborhoods prior to road resurfacing is a key factor in delivering longer-lasting streets and improving resilience to weather events," Herget said.

This drainage improvement project is funded using City of Indianapolis stormwater service fees.
