CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana hospital that officials announced in February would close this spring has shuttered its doors weeks earlier than planned.
The Kentuckiana Medical Center had been set to close April 27, but a message posted on the Clarksville hospital's website says it officially closed as of Monday.
The News and Tribune reports that photos which hospital employees sent the newspaper show the building is currently being packed up and cleaned out.
Employees recently received an email from a hospital official stating that the hospital "received confirmation from the state that we are no longer a hospital."
The 80,000-square-foot hospital opened in Clarksville in 2009, and was started by a group of southern Indiana doctors at a time when doctor-owned hospitals and surgical centers were springing up nationwide.
