The Indiana Department of Health announced Monday the state surpassed 800,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The most recent 100,000 cases were reported over the course of just more than four months – more than a quarter of which have been reported since Aug. 1.

From mid-April to July, Indiana averaged more than 600 new cases per day, but in the first half of August, it has averaged more than 2,000 new cases per day.

The state has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases just one day this month.

Indiana’s hospital census has also climbed in the last month – growing by nearly 600 percent since its pandemic-low on July 3.

More populous counties accounted for a greater share of new cases since the state reached 700,000 cases in mid-April. Marion, Allen and Lake counties reported the most new cases, with more than 6,000. When adjusted for population, 10 counties reported more than 200 new cases per 10,000 residents, with DeKalb and Huntington reporting more than 280 per 10,000.
