Indiana Guard Unit Returns From Afghanistan

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Cheers greeted members of an Indiana National Guard unit as they marched into a ceremony welcoming them home after an eight-month deployment to Afghanistan.

About 100 soldiers from the 1638th Transportation Company arrived Wednesday at the Guard armory in Lafayette. They spent their time in Afghanistan transporting equipment and supplies and providing security for convoys.

Spc. Richard Higley tells WLFI-TV he was glad to hold his twin daughters again since he left for the deployment just 12 days after they were released from an infant intensive care unit.
