Approximately 200 fresh Indiana Christmas trees are being shipped to U.S. service members stationed in Guam this holiday season.

“Those 200 trees were grown by farms all over Indiana and they were donated here to our farm since we are centrally located,” says Tom Dull with Dull’s Tree Farm in Thorntown, Indiana.

The program is called Trees for Troops and it's a partnership between FedEx and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation. Indiana has participated in the program for the past eight years.

Lt. Col. Scott Taylor is a FedEx Pilot and is also with the Air Force Reserves.  He says this special delivery means a lot to soldiers serving overseas during the Holidays.

“From the very beginning when somebody gets a package from the United States, or back home, that in itself is a great gift and brings a lot of joy. And then certainly, when they open the tree and smell the pine tree — there is something about smells that bring you back to earlier memories of your childhood or being with your family, and certainly there is nothing that says Christmas like the smell of a Christmas tree.”

Through the program, more than 17,000 trees will be donated and shipped throughout the U.S. this year.
