In Indiana, Nothing Says Online Romance Like 'NASCAR'

Hoosiers looking for love online aren’t afraid to espouse their love of NASCAR, according to a recent report from tech blog Mashable and Match.com.

Mashable asked the online dating service to comb through thousands of profiles to look for habits and interests of daters in different states. To do that, they looked for words that were used with “relative frequency in certain states.”

In Indiana that word was "NASCAR."

In a state where one of the most cherished traditions is kneeling down to kiss a yard of bricks, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the popular auto racing series frequently pops up in profiles. But, “NASCAR” didn’t even make the cut in North Carolina, where most of its competitors are based, and where NASCAR has corporate offices in three cities. “Mountains” was the most frequently used word there.

“Basketball” was the word that set Kentucky apart from the nation. Ohio and Michigan each claimed “bonfires.”  In Illinois “neighborhoods”
