The hype for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 has begun before the green flag has dropped on the 99th edition.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials unveiled the logo for its milestone event Thursday morning.
"Each year we design a new logo for the Indianapolis 500, but this year's effort has been given special consideration," Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co., said in a statement. "The logo for the 100th Indianapolis 500 recognizes both our illustrious past and an even brighter future."
The design, which will be used in a year-long celebration of the event, is gray and gold -- the gold representing the color of champions -- and incorporates a 100 within a winged 500.
Here's a video from IMS explaining the design.
