IMPD, Indy Public Safety Foundation Train Recruits In Cultural Sensitivity

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indy Public Safety Foundation have another tool to improve transparency and address racial and cultural sensitivity.

Interrupting Racism training will be given to the IMPD Training Academy’s 22nd recruit class and follows the implicit bias training given to all IMPD officers over the years. Indy Public Safety Foundation Executive Director Dane Nutty explains the instruction this recruit class will receive.

“It's more so examining the history of the system, you know, to lead us to the point we're at now, bringing awareness and opportunities for dialogue around the discussion of racial and social equity,” Nutty said. “And then giving folks tools to be able to continue that dialogue forward to action.”

Nutty said this latest tool is another chapter of the foundation’s work to improve community relations. The two-day training is in partnership with Child Advocates.
