Indianapolis Animal Care Services is pleading for community support as it finds itself out of space for animals.
IACS Deputy Director Katie Trenepohl said kennels are full and temporary crates in hallways are now being used for the overflow of animals. She said there is also a shortage of staff.
“We have about 20 percent of our positions vacant and that does include management level positions in our kennel shift lead,” Trenepohl said. “They are beyond exhausted, but they continue to show up day after day to care for the hundreds of animals depending on them at the shelter. And we greatly appreciate them.”
Trennepohl said they receive hundreds of emails and voicemails and often can’t respond right away because they are so understaffed.
There is a great need for adoptions, fosters, volunteers, and donations.
Adoptions are free with a donation to the shelters’ holiday wish list which includes, canned dog and cat food, toys, and laundry detergent.
