BLOOMINGTON -- A ceremony marking the opening of I-69 section four, which runs from Naval Surface Warfare Crane to Bloomington, is scheduled for next week.

Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan says he received an invitation from the Indiana Department of Transportation for a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Gov. Mike Pence on Dec. 9.

That ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by a “ceremonial caravan northbound along the new 27 miles of interstate.”

An INDOT spokesperson did not confirm this event, saying the department is not ready to confirm the opening date of the section of interstate.

The department has previously stated the section is on track to open by the end of 2015.
