Hoosiers Encouraged To Participate In ShakeOut

Hoosiers Encouraged To Participate In ShakeOut

It’s not too late to sign up for the 4th annual Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.  Businesses, schools, organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in Thursday's event that is designed to bring awareness to disaster preparedness.

In the spring of 2008, people all over Indiana felt an earthquake measuring a magnitude of 5.4, originating from the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone.  The ShakeOut aims to help individuals and communities get ready protect themselves.  Participants are encouraged to use online tools like broadcast recordings to help facilitate the drill.  The recommended response to earthquake shaking is drop, cover and hold on.

Other safety activities include testing emergency plans, updating preparedness kits and securing items that may fall.  Registration and resources are available at shakeout.org/centralus.  More than 530,000 Hoosiers are planning to take part in this week's drill, Thursday, October 17 at 10:17 a.m.
