BLOOMINGTON -- Hoosier basketball fans have a chance to own a piece of Assembly Hall history.

Indiana University’s surplus store is auctioning off turnstiles that were used in the iconic arena starting today.

The 24 crimson turnstiles sitting in IU’s surplus store are showing signs of their age. They’re dusty, some are starting to rust and the numbers on their counters are evidence of the tens of thousands of fans who’ve walked through and into Assembly Hall.

They’ve been there for three National Championships.

There’s just a ton of memories for any IU faithful out there," said IU Surplus Store Sales Marketing Materials Manager Todd Reid.

His phone has been ringing off the hook with fans wanting to purchase a piece of history.

"I’ve had former players, I had an NBC executive from New York City call my direct line," Reid said.

The turnstiles will be auctioned off one-by-one through the first week of March Madness. Bids start at $500. Bidding for the first turnstile started at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and will run for 48 hours.
