An Indianapolis community food garden provides thousands of pounds of needed fresh produce to those who are food insecure.
Corteva Agriscience’s “Harvest for Hunger” garden is on target to reach a major milestone of growing and donating an overall total of more than 75,000 pounds of fresh produce to area food pantries since the garden’s inception in 2014.
In fact, the harvest total so far this year is up to more than 9,600 pounds of fresh produce.
Global Community Investment Leader Heidi Spahn said the garden is a valuable resource to those in need.
“We certainly know that food insecurity through the pandemic has risen significantly, but we do know according to Feeding America, that 1 in 8 Hoosiers face food insecurity and that is why we started this garden,” Spahn said.
The garden, located at the company’s Global Business Center on the northwest side, is a grassroots, employee-driven and led volunteer effort.
