Greenwood Approves $3.8M Makeover For Emerson Avenue

Greenwood is moving forward on plans to transform one of the city's thoroughfares.

On Tuesday, the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission approved a $3.8 million construction contract to begin work on a 1.5-mile stretch of Emerson Avenue, from County Line Road south to Main Street. The project includes raised decorative center medians, new traffic signals, 65 trees, enhanced lighting and a multiuse trail. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month.

The first phase of construction totals $1.8 million and includes road work and nine landscaped medians.

City officials say they hope the improvements will help to spur interest in land yet to be developed along Emerson.
