GARY, Ind. (AP) — The Gary Air Show returns this weekend after a two-year hiatus.

The show will be Saturday and Sunday and feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team.

The show was previously called the South Shore Air Show. It was canceled in 2013 because of federal budget problems and was rained out last year when it was moved to Jasper County. This weekend it will be at Gary's newly made over Marquette Park.

Chuck Hughes is executive director of the Gary Chamber of Commerce. He tells The (Munster) Times that the city wants to recapture an event that was successful in the past. He says the air show helps "dispel the perceptions" of Gary and show off its Lake Michigan beaches.
